This Privacy Policy explains how Spirit of Mum (‘we’, ‘us’, or ‘our’) collects, uses, stores, and discloses your personal information when you use the Spirit of Mum mobile application (‘the App’). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (‘Privacy Act’) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
By downloading, registering for, or using the Spirit of Mum App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy and consent to the collection and use of your information as described below.
1. Who We Are
Spirit of Mum is a mobile application designed to connect mothers, provide community support, and share resources relevant to motherhood and parenting. The App facilitates connections through in-app messaging, community posts, and personalised matching based on parenting stage, location, and shared interests.

2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal information:
Account Information
Full name
Email address
Password (stored using industry-standard encryption; we never store plain-text passwords)
Profile photo (optional)
Date of birth (optional; used to verify you are 18 or older)
Profile & Parenting Information
Parenting stage (e.g. pregnant, newborn, toddler, school-age)
Number of children
Location (suburb or city level only — we do not collect precise GPS coordinates)
Interests and values selected during onboarding
In-App Communications
Messages you send to other users via the App’s chat features
Posts, comments, and community contributions you create
Connections and matches made with other users
Please be mindful that messages are stored to enable the messaging feature and may be reviewed if a safety or conduct concern is reported to us.

3. How We Collect Your Information
We collect information:
Directly from you when you register, complete your profile, use App features, or contact us
Through third-party login services (Apple, Google) if you choose to sign in this way. We only receive information you authorise — typically your name and email address. We do not receive your social media or account passwords
Automatically through your use of the App (usage data, technical data, analytics)
When you use Apple Sign In, Apple may provide a private relay email address. We will use this address to communicate with you through the App.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to:
Create and manage your account
Match you with other mothers based on your parenting stage, location, and interests
Enable in-app messaging and community features
Personalise your in-app experience and content feed
Send you notifications relevant to your activity (you can opt out at any time in your device or App settings)
Improve, maintain, and develop the App
Ensure the safety and security of our community
Comply with our legal and regulatory obligations
We will never sell your personal information to third parties.
5. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:
Service Providers
We engage trusted third-party providers to help us operate the App, including cloud hosting, analytics, and customer support tools. These providers are bound by confidentiality obligations and are only permitted to process your data on our instructions.
Other Users
Your public profile information (display name, profile photo, parenting stage, and general location) is visible to other Spirit of Mum members. You can control what information appears publicly via your profile settings. Messages you send are visible only to the intended recipient(s).
Legal Obligations
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, by court order, or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of our users or the general public.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period after closure, to allow us to resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and comply with legal obligations. In general:
Account and profile data: deleted or de-identified within 30 days of account deletion
In-app messages: deleted within 30 days of account deletion
Financial or transaction records: retained for up to 7 years as required by Australian taxation law
Aggregated, de-identified analytics data: may be retained indefinitely as it cannot identify you
7. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure servers. We implement industry-standard technical and organisational security measures, including:
Encrypted password storage (we never store plain-text passwords)
Secure HTTPS/TLS connections for all data in transit
Access controls limiting data access to authorised personnel only
Regular security assessments
While we take all reasonable steps to protect your data, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
Notifiable Data Breaches: We comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme under Part IIIC of the Privacy Act. If we become aware of an eligible data breach that is likely to cause serious harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as soon as practicable.
8. Your Rights
Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
Access the personal information we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate, incomplete, or out-of-date information
Request deletion of your account and personal data (subject to legal retention requirements)
Opt out of marketing communications at any time
Lodge a complaint with the OAIC if you believe we have mishandled your personal information

9. Account Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by:
Using the ‘Delete Account’ option in your App settings; or
Emailing us at privacy@spiritofmum.com.au
Upon receiving your request, we will:
Acknowledge receipt within 5 business days
Delete your personal data within 30 days
Confirm deletion once complete
Some data may be retained beyond this period where required by law (e.g. financial records).
10. Children’s Privacy
Spirit of Mum is intended for users aged 18 years and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If we become aware that a minor has registered on the App, we will promptly delete their personal information and close the account.

11. Analytics & Tracking
The App uses analytics tools to understand how the App is used and to improve our services. Analytics data is aggregated and de-identified where possible. We do not serve advertising or use advertising tracking technologies within the App.
12. Third-Party Links & Services
The App may include links to third-party websites, services, or resources (for example, parenting articles or external support organisations). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. When we make material changes, we will:
Update the ‘Last updated’ date at the top of this Policy
Notify you via in-app notification or email before the changes take effect
For material changes, we will seek your active acknowledgement where required by law. Your continued use of the App after non-material updates have been posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
